4.2. Fuel pump / fuel level sensor

GENERAL INFORMATION

On models with petrol engines the fuel pump together with the fuel level sensor is installed in the fuel tank. On front-wheel cars with the diesel engine fuel from the fuel tank gets the fuel pump of high pressure and in a tank there is no fuel pump. On all-wheel drive cars with the diesel engine in the fuel tank the fuel pump is installed.

On a design the fuel level sensor consists of a potentiometer and the related float. At reduction of amount of fuel the float of the sensor falls and, increasing potentiometer resistance, lowers tension on the index of level of fuel located on a combination of devices.

Removal
PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Switch off ignition and remove a weight wire from the accumulator.
2. On the right side of the luggage compartment you peremesit a carpet back and unscrew the cover located over the fuel pump / fuel level sensor. For access to a cover, it is located ache over the fuel pump / fuel level sensor on all-wheel drive cars remove back sitting.
3. Disconnect the electric socket of the fuel pump / fuel level sensor. Keep in mind that the pipeline giving fuel is under pressure. Before a detachment of a fuel-supply line take off pressure in fuel system. For this purpose weaken a collar of fastening of a fuel-supply line, then close a junction rags and, being careful, remove a fuel hose from the union. For protection of eyes against hit of fuel use goggles.

4. Weaken a collar and remove the giving and returnable fuel-supply lines about unions of a fixing flange. Close the ends of pipelines suitable traffic jams.
5. Using the special VW-3217 tool, unscrew a flange nut. For unscrewing of a flange nut on all-wheel drive cars it is necessary to use the special VW-3087 tool. In the absence of the special tool unscrew a flange nut, using wooden whetstone and the hammer.
6. Take a fixing flange and a sealing ring from an opening of the fuel tank.
7. From the inside of a fixing flange mark and disconnect electric sockets and fuel hoses.
8. Being careful, disconnect the fuel level sensor and take it from the fuel tank.

Petrol engine

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Using the special VW-3307 tool, release the fuel pump from a clamp, having turned it on 15 °, and take the fuel pump from a tank. Fixing of the special tool is carried out in cuts of the case of the fuel pump.
2. Merge fuel from the fuel pump in the corresponding capacity.

Installation

Combination of tags at installation of a fixing flange on the fuel tank

1 – a tag on a fixing flange,
2 – a tag on the fuel tank

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Install the fuel pump in the fuel tank. Before installation dip a sealing ring into fuel.
2. Turn the fuel pump clockwise and fix it in the fuel tank.
3. Fix the fuel level sensor in clamps of the fuel tank.
4. From a reverse side of a fixing flange connect electric sockets and fuel pipelines.
5. Establish a fixing flange so that the tag on a flange was combined with a tag on the fuel tank, see rice. Combination of tags at installation of a fixing flange on the fuel tank.
6. Screw a flange nut and, using the special VW-3217 tool, tighten its moment 60 Nanometers.
7. Put on the giving and returnable fuel hoses the union of a fixing flange and fix them by collars. Shooters on unions specify the direction to fuel streams. Returnable fuel hose of blue color.
8. Connect the electric socket to a fixing flange.
9. Establish a cover over a fixing flange and screw it screws.
10. Check correctness and reliability of fastening of fuel and ventilating hoses to the fuel tank.
11. Establish into place a carpet of the luggage compartment. On all-wheel drive cars establish back sitting.
12. Connect a weight wire to the accumulator.
