3.5. Thermostat

GENERAL INFORMATION

Removal

FOUR-CYLINDER ENGINE

The thermostat is located in the case of the water pump. On engines 1,6-I with the AHL code, the thermostat fastens to a cooling system branch pipe, sideways the block of cylinders of the engine.

Merge cooling liquid from the cooling system.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Unscrew two bolts fixing a cooling system branch pipe to the lower part of the water pump and merge cooling liquid in the corresponding container. Move a cooling system branch pipe with the hose connected to it aside, see rice. A thermostat arrangement on four-cylinder engines, except the engine 1,6-I AHL.
2. Remove the thermostat and a sealing ring. At installation of the thermostat it is necessary to use a new sealing ring.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Unscrew two bolts and remove a connecting branch pipe from the block of cylinders of the engine.
2. Remove the thermostat together with a sealing ring. At installation it is necessary to use a new sealing ring, see rice. Thermostat of engines 1,6-I AHL.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Measure length (a) of the closed thermostat, see rice. Working provisions of the thermostat.
2. A rough inspection of operability of the thermostat can be carried out, having suspended it on a thread in the glass vessel filled with water and heating water to boiling (see rice. Check of operability of the thermostat by its heating in a vessel with water). When boiling water the thermostat has to open. Otherwise replace it.
Temperature of opening of the thermostat is put on the thermostat case.
When heating the thermostat to water boiling temperature length of the open thermostat (b) has to be more than length of the closed thermostat (a) on 7 mm (see rice. Working provisions of the thermostat).
The thermostat which is not closed when cooling water is also subject to replacement.

Installation


PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Install the thermostat with a new sealing ring. Establish a branch pipe of the cooling system and fix it by bolts, having tightened their effort 10 Nanometers.
2. Fill in in the cooling system, cooling liquid.
3. Start the engine and check tightness of the cooling system.

FIVE-CYLINDER ENGINE

The thermostat is located in the separate case which fastens from the forward party of a head of the block of cylinders (see rice. Knot of a head of the block of cylinders of the engine 2,3-I-VR5).

The thermostat needs to be installed so that the channel for removal of air was directed up.

Given for check of operability of the thermostat

Temperature began opening of the thermostat of +87 °C.

Temperature of full opening of the thermostat of +105 °C.

Thermostat valve stroke length not less than 7 mm.

SIX-CYLINDER ENGINE

Removal of a connecting branch pipe of the cooling system from a forward part of a head of the block of cylinders


1 – bolt,
2 – connecting branch pipe,
3 – sealing ring,
4 – thermostat

The thermostat is located in the connecting branch pipe established on the block of cylinders of the engine.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Merge cooling liquid from the cooling system.
2. Take off poliklinovy a belt.
3. Weaken a tension of a gear belt and take off a gear belt from a camshaft pulley.
Prevention

For protection of a gear belt against cooling liquid close a gear belt polyethylene.


4. Unscrew two bolts and remove a connecting branch pipe of the cooling system from a forward part of a head of the block of cylinders, see rice. Removal of a connecting branch pipe of the cooling system from a forward part of a head of the block of cylinders.
5. Take a sealing ring and the thermostat from a head of the block of cylinders.
6. Check operability of the thermostat.

Installation

The correct arrangement of the thermostat on six-cylinder engines

The arrow specified the valve for removal of air.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Install the thermostat in a head of the block of cylinders so that the valve for removal of air settled down from above, see rice. The correct arrangement of the thermostat on six-cylinder engines.
2. Establish a connecting branch pipe of the cooling system with a new sealing ring and screw bolts, having tightened their moment 10 Nanometers.
3. Establish a gear belt on a camshaft pulley.
4. Fill in cooling liquid in the cooling system.
5. Start the engine and check tightness of the cooling system.
