3.4. Replacement of cooling liquid

GENERAL INFORMATION

Replacement of cooling liquid needs to be made after carrying out any works on cooling system elements with discharge of cooling liquid. If at repair replacement of a head of the block of cylinders, laying of a head of the block of cylinders, a radiator or the heat exchanger of oil was made, it is necessary to make filling only of fresh cooling liquid. It is connected with the fact that anticorrosive additive during the work of cooling liquid is besieged and creates anticorrosive protection. In the cooling liquid which was in operation anticorrosive additives are less active to form a protective layer on again established details.

Discharge of cooling liquid

Prevention

When opening a cover of a broad tank on the hot engine it is necessary to be careful as the coming-out vapors can lead to severe burns. For this purpose close a cover of a broad tank a thick layer of fabric and slowly unscrew a cover before emergence of the hissing sound. After the hissing termination slowly unscrew, and uncover a broad tank.


PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Lift a forward part of the car and fix on supports.
2. Remove the lower mudguard of the engine.
3. Install the corresponding container under a radiator.

Diesel engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Using a coin or the screw-driver with a wide edge, unscrew a carving stopper for discharge of cooling liquid from a radiator.
2. For fuller discharge of cooling liquid remove the thermostat.

Four - and five-cylinder petrol engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Using a coin or the screw-driver with a wide edge, unscrew a stopper for discharge of cooling liquid from a radiator.
2. Disconnect the lower hose of the cooling system from a radiator. For a detachment of a hose take the fixing bracket located sideways the connecting coupling, then disconnect a hose.
3. Unscrew the stopper of discharge of cooling liquid located on the water pump and merge cooling liquid from the block of cylinders of the engine. On the engine 1,6-I with the AHL code due to the lack of a carving stopper it is necessary to unscrew the connecting union of the thermostat.

Six-cylinder engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Disconnect the lower hose of a radiator and merge cooling liquid in a container.
2. For discharge of cooling liquid from the block of cylinders of the engine unscrew the carving stopper located from the lower left side of the block of cylinders.
3. If cooling liquid is strongly polluted, wash out the cooling system. As cooling liquid cannot be merged completely from the cooling system, it is recommended to wash out every time at plum of cooling liquid the cooling system.

Filling of the cooling system

Prior to works prepare the required amount of cooling liquid from 50% of water and 50% of antifreeze with anticorrosive G12 additive.

Petrol engines, except five-cylinder

PERFORMANCE ORDER
Connect the lower hose of the cooling system to a radiator and fix the connecting coupling by the fixing brackets.

Five-cylinder engines, diesel engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Screw up into place a stopper of discharge of cooling liquid from a radiator and tighten its moment 10 Nanometers.
2. Screw in a stopper of discharge of cooling liquid with a new sealing ring in the case of the water pump and tighten its moment 30 Nanometers.
3. If the thermostat was removed, install it into place.

Six-cylinder engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Screw in a stopper of discharge of cooling liquid with a new sealing ring in the case of the water pump and tighten its moment 20 Nanometers.
2. Establish the lower mudguard of the engine and lower the car on the earth.
3. Move the regulator of temperature of system of heating to the provision of the maximum temperature.
4. About a partition of a motor compartment weaken a collar of fastening of a hose of return of cooling liquid from a radiator of a heater and shift from the union a hose so that the union did not close an opening in a hose for removal of air.

Six-cylinder engines

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Unscrew two caps for removal of air located on cooling system pipes about a broad tank.
2. Instead of a cover of a broad tank screw in a carving adapter of VAG 1274/9 with a tube with a diameter of 42 mm and height (a)100 of mm. It is necessary completely to fill the engine cooling system with cooling liquid and to remove from it air. In the absence of special adaptation it can be made independently. It is alternatively possible to unscrew a broad tank from an arm and to raise it together with the connected hoses by 10 cm and to enshrine in this provision.
3. You make filling of cooling liquid in a broad tank until cooling liquid does not follow through carving caps for removal of air. Screw up caps the moment of 20 Nanometers.
4. Fill in cooling liquid in the cooling system until liquid does not begin to follow through an opening in a hose for return of cooling liquid from a heater. Dress against the stop a hose on the union and fix it by a collar.
5. If the broad tank was removed from an arm, establish it on an arm. Remove adaptation which was installed instead of a cover from a broad tank, and screw a cover on a broad tank.
6. Start the engine and hold it within 3 minutes on turns of 2000 rpm.
7. Transfer the engine to the idling mode before warming up of the lower hose of a radiator, then switch off the engine.
8. Check the level of cooling liquid and if necessary bring it to norm.
9. On the hot engine the level of cooling liquid has to be at the level of max tag, and on the cold engine it has to be between tags of max and min.
