1.5. Engine cooling system

GENERAL INFORMATION

The cooling system of the engine is filled at manufacturer with cooling liquid of long action which should not be replaced.

Cooling liquid consists for 60% of water and for 40% of a low-temperature concentrate of G12 A8D (low-temperature structure on the basis of ethylene glycol with anticorrosive additives). This mix not only provides работоспособ an engine cooling system nost up to the temperature of -25 °C, but also protects details from corrosion, first of all details from light alloys. Besides, this mix prevents scaling and significantly increases temperature of boiling of cooling liquid.

Therefore contents nizkotemperaturno го a concentrate also in warm season and in the countries with warm climate should not be reduced by use of water for a dolivka. The share of a low-temperature concentrate has to be not less than 40%.

If in the conditions of severe climate higher frost resistance of cooling liquid is necessary, it is possible to raise a share of a concentrate of G12 A8D, but only to 60% (temperature of freezing of cooling liquid in this case will make about -40 °C) as at a bigger share of a low-temperature concentrate to a temperat ра freezing of cooling liquid will begin to raise, and, besides, indicators of a thermal capacity and heat conductivity of cooling liquid will worsen.

As a low-temperature concentrate it is necessary to use only our structure of G12 A8D or a concentrate with the TL-VW 774 D specification (pay attention to an inscription on a container).

Other concentrates can be substantially aggressive, first of all, in relation to corrosion-resistant coatings.

The corrosion of metal details which arose because of these the concentrator can lead to leak of cooling liquid, and it in turn – to serious damages of the engine.

As a low-temperature concentrate it is necessary to use only our structure of G12 A8D.


Prevention

At a dolivka of cooling liquid consider, please, that it is impossible to mix structure of G12 with other low-temperature concentrates at all (as well with structure of G11).
You can determine structure of G12 by red color of cooling liquid in a broad tank. If cooling liquid in a broad tank of brown color, so the structure of G12 is mixed with other low-temperature concentrate! In this case it is necessary to replace cooling liquid surely!
Otherwise there can be serious violations in operation of the engine!

Prevention

Never open an engine cowl when you would see that from a motor compartment there is steam or cooling liquid – dangers of receiving a burn follows! Wait until steam or a leak cooling liquid ceases to come out.


The broad tank of the cooling system of the engine is located in a motor compartment.

Level of cooling liquid can be correctly checked only at the switched-off engine.
Level of cooling liquid at the cold engine has to be between the marks min and max of a broad tank; at the heated-up engine level can also be slightly above the mark max.

For check of density it is necessary to use the areometer for cooling liquid.

Loss of cooling liquid

Considerable decrease in level of cooling liquid grants the right to assume first of all violation of tightness of consolidations. In this case it is necessary to check urgently the engine cooling system in the service enterprise Volkswagen. It is absolutely not enough to be limited only dolivky cooling liquid.

In the cooling system decrease in level of cooling liquid can only meet correct consolidations when liquid at an overheat of the engine boils and is thrown out outside.

At first to switch off the engine and to allow it to cool down. Then to cover with a rag a stopper of a broad tank and to carefully turn off it counterclockwise.

If in the circumstances you have no low-temperature concentrate of G12 A8D, it is not necessary to add any other concentrate to system. In this case only water can be added, at the first opportunity it is necessary to restore surely necessary composition of cooling liquid, addition of the raturny concentrate recommended low-speed.

At big loss of cooling liquid its dolivka has to be made only at the cooled-down engine to avoid breakage of the engine.


Prevention

Do not pour cooling liquid above the mark max: excessive liquid owing to its expansion will follow from the cooling system via the safety valve located in a stopper.

Reliably wrap a stopper of a broad tank.
