1.19. Check/replacement of level of oil in the automatic transmission

GENERAL INFORMATION

Check of level of oil in the automatic transmission

1 – carving stopper,
2 – a perepuskny (drain) pipe in the oil pallet,
3 – stopper (cap),
4 – safety cap

Level of gearbox oil in the automatic transmission depends on temperature of gearbox oil. As exact measurement of temperature requires the diagnostic equipment, it is recommended to perform this work at VW service station. Usually oil level in the automatic transmission remains to constants if places of leaks are visually not visible. In that case there is no need for check of level of oil.

The automatic 4-hstupenchaty transmission 01N (in combination with the 4-htsilindrovy engine, except the 150 hp engines)

When checking level and replacing oil it is necessary to use goggles. It is also necessary to establish new consolidation of a carving stopper and a new safety cap for a stopper.

Check of level of oil

When checking level, temperature of gearbox oil has to be below +35 °C. This temperature reaches ся through small time after start of the engine. For determination of temperature it is necessary to connect the diagnostic equipment of VW to the socket. Otherwise temperature can be determined only approximately.

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Install the car on the elevator in horizontal position.
2. Remove the lower mudguard of the engine.
3. Install the selector lever by the automatic transmission in situation "P" and tighten the emergency brake.
4. Start the engine when testing on idling turns.
5. At a temperature the automatic transmission from +35 to +40 °C, unscrew a carving stopper (1) in the oil pallet of the transmission. Oil level normal if there is an insignificant exit of oil (conditionally because of rise in level of oil when heating). Otherwise add oil in the transmission. Screw in a stopper into place, before achievement of temperature of +45 °C and tighten its moment 15 Nanometers.
6. Establish the lower mudguard of the engine.

Oil replacement

PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Install the car on the elevator in horizontal position.
2. Remove the lower mudguard of the engine.
3. Install the corresponding container under the oil pallet of the automatic transmission.
4. Unscrew a carving stopper (1) of check of level of oil, and then using a six-sided key and a drain (perepuskny) pipe (2) from the oil pallet (see rice. Check of level of oil in the automatic transmission). Wait until all oil from the transmission flows down.
Prevention

Do not start and do not tow the car without oil in the automatic transmission.


5. Screw in a drain (perepuskny) pipe (2) against the stop in the oil pallet.
6. The screw-driver take off the safety cap located on an oil-filling pipe at the same time there will be its destruction. Unscrew a stopper.
7. At first fill in in the transmission through an oil-filling pipe 3,0 liters of fresh oil.
8. Install the selector lever in situation "P", start the engine and let's it work on single turns.
9. With the engine idling, press a brake and move the selector lever to all provisions (P, N, R, 3,2,1) with a delay in each situation for 2–3 seconds.
10. Check oil level in the transmission and if necessary, modify it.
11. At the required oil level, establish a stopper and close it a safety cap.
12. Establish the lower mudguard of the engine.

Check of level of oil in the automatic transmission

Replacement of oil is not provided in the automatic 5-tistupenchaty transmission 01V, and at maintenance only oil level is checked.

Usually oil level in the automatic transmission remains to constants if places of leaks are visually not visible. In that case there is no need for check of level of oil.

When checking level of oil it is necessary to use goggles. It is also necessary to establish new consolidation of a carving stopper. For a dolivka of oil it is necessary to use the curved syringe butterdish.

When checking level, temperature of gearbox oil has to be below +40 °C. This temperature is reached through small time after start of the engine. For determination of temperature it is necessary to connect the diagnostic equipment of VW to the socket. Otherwise temperature can be determined only approximately.
PERFORMANCE ORDER
1. Install the car on the elevator in horizontal position.
2. Remove the lower mudguard of the engine.
3. Install the selector lever by the automatic transmission in situation "P" and tighten the emergency brake.
4. Start the engine when testing on idling turns.
5. At a temperature the automatic transmission from +35 to +40 °C, unscrew a carving stopper (2) in the oil pallet of the transmission (see rice. Check of level of oil in the automatic transmission). Oil level normal if there is an insignificant exit of oil (conditionally because of rise in level of oil when heating).
Otherwise add oil in an opening for a carving stopper.
6. Fill in fresh oil with a butterdish until it does not begin to come out (2) an opening of a carving stopper.
Prevention

Do not push the syringe butterdish up as the maslootrazhatelny cap (4) can come off. Enter a syringe bend for filling of oil into a side opening of a maslootrazhatelny cap. Bolte (1) do not unscrew.


7. Screw in a stopper (2) into place, before achievement of temperature of +45 °C and tighten its moment 80 Nanometers.

Check of a condition of oil

When checking level of oil in the automatic transmission also check a condition of oil. For simplification of check of a condition of oil compare color, a smell and viscosity of oil to new oil.

If oil in the transmission dark or almost black with a burned smell, so frictional overlays of the transmission are worn-out.

If oil in the transmission has dairy color, so water got to it. It can occur at continuous operation of the car on short trips. If color of oil does not change after a long trip, it is necessary to replace oil.

If oil has dark brown color and sticky, it can be because of an overheat of the transmission or too high level of oil in a box. If replacement of oil does not yield result, the car needs to be presented to the specialized workshop VW.

If when checking level of oil or replacing oil at an automatic box at oil there are particles of dirt or metal shaving, it is necessary to make diagnostics or repair of the automatic transmission on spetsializ of rovanny service station VW.
