13.5. Rules of care of the accumulator


If you are going to keep operability of the battery throughout the longest period of time, follow the following rules:

  – at the idle engine switch off all electric devices in the car;
  – begin disconnection of the battery from network of the car with a negative wire;
  – each 15–20 days (through 2 500 km of a run) wipe the accumulator from dirt in order to avoid its self-discharge. With the same purpose it is necessary to eliminate begin to flow electrolyte and to isolate a fixing frame from the case;
  – the accumulator has to be reliably fixed on the car. You watch that plugs of wires were strongly fixed on accumulator conclusions, otherwise explosion is possible;
the accumulator can continuously work in the starter mode no more than 15 seconds; the break between cycles has to 'make not less than 60 seconds;
  – eriodichesk check the voltmeter tension developed by the relay regulator. Readings need to be taken directly on plugs аккумулято ра at the working, heated-up engine. The size of tension has to keep within range from 13,8 to 14,5 Volts;
  – on the served accumulators it is desirable to check the level and density of electrolyte through each 3 000 km.   – accumulator charging is made the current making exactly 0,1 from nominal capacity. For example, the accumulator with a capacity of 50 And / needs to be charged with current with a force of 5 And, at the unscrewed traffic jams of jellied openings h;
  – you should not fill in in the accumulator electrolyte with specific weight more than 1,28 g/cm3. Operation of the discharged battery, especially is not allowed in the winter.

In the discharged accumulator the water percent in electrolyte is too high. Electrolyte can freeze and put the accumulator case out of action. Do not try to charge the frozen accumulator with big current or to start the car from a foreign source, Let's the accumulator thaw, and then try to restore it by charging current of small force, and it still can serve.
